  • 2020 Platinum Highlander Broke down after 3 wks

By Dan on Friday, March 13, 2020

    1.0
I’ve driven the highlander for 3 weeks. The heater core broke, lost 1/2 gallon of coolant, it was overheating when slowing down and no warm air inside the cabin at all. I’ve had the car for 3 weeks and 908 miles. I expect better quality for a $50,000 vehicle! I know I have warranty but we all know what overheating can do in the long run. So any “patch” work they do will not change the fact that it already has a problem and the value of this Toyota is not the same anymore.

I have purchased 2020 highlander limited a month ago. I have waited almost 5 years to find the right one for me. This highlander limited has a mean aggressive look and LED head lights. Better looks than previous models. 2nd row has better leg room and very comfortable. Seats recline and nice. 1200 watts stereo is clear and awesome. Sounds better than my s class. Safety features already saved me from hitting backing up. I wanted to get 4runner but outdated and obsolete. Too bad.... I really like this one. So cal gets hot, this car has ventilated seats and heated seats. Believe me you ll like it. Only con is small fuel tank only goes 300miles. Old 4runner of mine traveled 360 miles.
  • Bland exterior, but comfortable beautiful interior

I bought the Platinum AWD model. It has a black exterior, and caramel interior. Things I really like: (1) It drives beautifully. Plenty of power, very nice handling and steering, and very good suspension that soaks up the bumps. The turning radius is small which makes it very maneuverable. (2) Great visibility and easy to park especially with surround-view camera. The camera system provides very sharp and clear graphics for parking and moving around in a parking lot. The picture is large (it fills the 12.3 inch diagonal screen), and of high clarity. It works both moving forward or backing in. (3) The user interface. The gauge cluster provides a lot of information and is very customizable with large speedometer and tachometer. The 12.3" diagonal infotainment screen is very customizable. The heads up display is large and clear. All controls are logically laid out and easy to find. (4) Seat comfort in both front and second row is fantastic with lots of room. (5) Lots of cargo space. (6) Fantastic adaptive headlights. (7) The quality of materials is high everywhere. The dashboard is encased in leather and so are the door panels. The caramel color is different and very attractive. (8) The enhanced JBL sound system is pretty good. At first, I thought it was only average, but it got better over time as the speakers were exercised. Also, the sound in the rear seats is just as good as in the front seat. Things I don't like as much: (1) The exterior design is kind of bland. This vehicle looks too much like a mini-van. From some viewpoints, especially the front grill, or the rear, it is attractive. (2) The third row is really cramped. It helps that the 2nd row seats can slide very far up, providing another 6 inches of legroom for 3rd row passengers, but the seats are still thinly padded and too close to the floor. (3) The 12.3" touchscreen interface is fantastic but also has a lot of glare. (4) So far the mileage has not been as good as I have hoped. I am averaging 21 MPG with mostly freeway driving. It's slowly creeping up as the car is breaking in, so maybe I just have to be patient. (5) Road noise is more pronounced than I hoped. It is okay but not luxury car level. Overall, it is a very refined and well designed vehicle. It is easy to live with both as a daily commuter and a road trip car. Also, the interior is a knock-out and the technology is top notch and includes all the modern equipment one comes to expect. It is not a cheap vehicle. The base price of an AWD vehicle is close to 38000. Considering all the extra equipment and the extra luxury touches of the Platinum AWD trim, its $50000 price seems to be a bargain.
